Hyatt Plaza has announced its plans for the holy month of Ramadan, which will feature 20 days of “entertainment, education and spirituality”.
During a press conference, Fuad Shaqadan, leasing and marketing manager at Hyatt Plaza, spoke about the return of Fast-a-thon in its sixth edition, a Malaysian bazaar, children’s activities and other highlights.
The mall is planning to host the Layaly Alkhair festival in collaboration with Edad Educational Centre. It is an educational and entertaining initiative that will bring families together and give them the chance to witness a series of activities, including Nasheeds, storytelling and cultural competitions, with the participation of Dr Abdulrahman al-Harami, Aqeel al-Janahi, Ahmed al-Muftah and Esmaa Wesati Group.
The sixth edition of Hyatt Plaza’s popular Ramadan event, Fast-a-thon, will take place on June 26 and 27. It is a charity event designed for non-Muslims, giving them the opportunity to experience fasting for one day. In return, Hyatt Plaza and Qatar Charity will donate QR200 on behalf of every participant to boost education in Somalia.
The mall will also organise an Iftar party for all participants, promoting the universal values of brotherhood, tolerance and empathy.
Fast-a-thon had more than 340 participants in 2014 and raised QR68,000 in donations and more than QR70,000 through a related photography exhibition, which allowed the mall to receive an award for cause-related marketing from Middle East Council for Shopping Centres.
“Our mission, along with Hyatt Plaza, will be to raise funds to provide complementary courses for young minds (in Somalia) in order to increase their chances of getting higher education and becoming productive members of society,” said Salih al-Ali, programmes and project manager at Qatar Charity.
“Developing young minds through quality entertainment is the main pillar of our planned Ramadan activities,” added Abdulrahman al-Harami, educational consultant, Edad Educational Centre.
The family festival is co-sponsored and supported by Awqaf, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Qatar Foundation for Social Protection and Rehabilitation, Qatar International Islamic Bank, Ayalna magazine and Al Aker Sweets, and will take place in the food court of Hyatt Plaza from the first to 20th of Ramadan, daily from 9pm to 11pm.
The shopping mall also plans to conduct this year’s edition of its successful activities and competitions, including the Malaysian bazaar, organised by the Malaysian community in Qatar. The mall will also spread the spirit of Ramadan by hosting Garangao.
