With the ultimate aim of bringing together Palestine’s finest narratives and Qatar’s emerging cinema to Doha’s audience, the Doha Palestine Cinema Festival (DPCF) opens today in Qatar and will run for 7 days in two venues—Katara's Drama Theater (Building 16) from October 10 to 13 and Art Centre (Building 5) from October 14 to 16.

Bearing the tagline “Tales From The Land of Tales,” DPCF this year aims to screen a diverse collection of remarkable, award-winning, thought-provoking films from Palestine and Qatar, including narratives, documentaries, rare early works and video art pieces that offer refreshingly honest, self-described and independent views on history, culture and societies, especially those geographically-isolated.

Its opening film 'Wajib' by witer-director Annemarie Jacir—whose past works got selected by Cannes and Oscar committees—is screening at 7:30 PM tonight and is set to tug the heartstrings of the Doha crowd through the film's heavily-familial theme—preferably father and son relationships.

Moreover and besides celebrating established and emerging filmmakers from Palestine and Qatar, DPCF aims to develop a film-appreciation society with grounds for dialogue among various cultures and to reinforce film culture itself amongst the community in Qatar.

DPCF is an independent community festival initiated by individuals in Qatar who share passion for cinema and narratives, supported by a group of patrons, partners and renowned sponsors.

Besides feature films, locally-made short films will also be screened over the course of 7 days. Click HERE to view the film festival's full schedule.
