With less than six months to go until the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) is encouraging the nation to get together and celebrate Olympic sport on National Sport Day 2016. The QOC has today released information about the Olympic sporting activities that will be on offer for all ages and abilities across Qatar.

The QOC will be organising activities in the Qanat Quartier of The Pearl in conjunction with the United Development Company. From 8am-4pm, the beachfront will come alive with sporting activities, competitions and entertainment. To mark Doha’s hosting of the 2016 UCI Road World Championships, there will be an opportunity for visitors to the activity area to win a brand new bike. Cycling fans will also be able to watch the Tour of Qatar travel through The Pearl between 1-3pm.

The QOC’s National Federations will be organising activities across Qatar, with the main hubs at Katara, the Corniche, Aspire Park and Al Gharrafa. With taster sessions and demonstrations taking place throughout the day in over 30 different sports, National Sport Day provides an opportunity to try new sports and pick up old ones. Sports and activities range from football, athletics and handball to bowling, golf, hockey and para-sport. A full list of the activities and locations can be found on the QOC’s website http://bit.ly/1RYGdxV.

National Sport Day is an annual event celebrated across Qatar on the second Tuesday of February. Qatar is one of the only countries in the world to have a public holiday dedicated to sport and it aims to bring the nation together in a shared celebration of sport and inspire people to lead active and healthy lifestyles. This year’s National Sport Day will take place on 9th February 2016.
