‘Hekayat Khaleejiya’ is a DFI screening series dedicated to showcasing cinematic voices from the Gulf region. Taking place at the Museum of Islamic Art every three months, ‘Hekayat Khaleejiya’ will present films accompanied by a Q&A session with the filmmakers for a chance to gain insight in to their work and process. The new series launches with the highly acclaimed ‘Sea Shadow’ from the United Arab Emirates, a delightful coming-of-age story about two young people in a small Emirati coastal town. The Thursday January 17th screening will be followed by an extended Q&A session with director Nawaf Al-Janahi and screenwriter Mohammed Hassan Ahmed.

Set in a small seaside neighborhood in Ras Al-Khaimah, the film follows Emirati 16 year-olds Mansoor and Kaltham as they struggle with traditions and conventions on their journey towards adulthood. Bound by family and deeply rooted values, the pair must find the courage to forge their paths. In this charmingly low-key follow-up to his debut feature "The Circle", director Nawaf Al-Janahi combines a nostalgic feel for a simpler time with genuine cultural insight.
