Hundreds of visitors thronged the opening of the first-ever ‘Mother, Baby and Kids Show’ yesterday at the Doha Exhibition Centre.

Visitors, mostly families, rushed to check over a hundred booths representing companies specialising in fashion, education, health and hygiene, food, toys, games, gifts, furniture and other equipment for protection, care and entertainment who are taking part at the exhibition.

“This three-day event has everything from health to culture to education focusing on requirements of pregnant women, mothers, babies and growing up children,” said a representative of Glitter Diamonds, organisers of the expo, adding the event is being held in celebration of International Day of Families.

With over a hundred exhibitors taking part at the event, the exhibition can already be considered a big success even on its first edition, he said.

Children who came to the opening enjoyed the event having been glutted with gifts at various stalls, playing at bouncy castles and play areas and taking pictures with funny mascots.

Musical shows catered for children, demonstrations for mothers and other workshops were also held such as practical advices on mothers on personal care during pregnancy and breast feeding including information on foetus growth and how to deal with their newborns.

Apart from commercial companies, the event also saw the participation of various government and non-government entities such as Mada Assistive Technology Centre, Al Noor Institute, Qatar Green Centre, National Human Rights Committee, Social Development Centre, Ministry of Interior and the British Council.

Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing is showcasing some children’s books both in Arabic and English and other interesting titles for grown-ups.

Visitors to the show can also witness how Qatari handicrafts are made such as weaving and embroidery.

The exhibition of various products is complemented by other activities such as educational lectures and workshops and a variety of interactive activities.

The event was conceptualized in response to the rise in birth rates locally and regionally which grow by 25 percent annually and to new family concepts introduced due to economic, social and cultural development.

Organised under the auspices of H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammad Al Thani, Chairman od Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ‘Mother, Baby and Kids Show’ is open today from 3pm to 10pm and tomorrow from 11am to 10pm at the Doha Exhibition Centre.
