MoPH confirms 238 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing total to 262

The Ministry of Public Health in Qatar today announced the registration of 238 new confirmed cases of Corona Virus 2019 (Covid-19) in the State of Qatar for expatriates from contacts with the three cases that were announced as having contracted the virus on Sunday and they are all residing in one residential complex.

The ministry explained that the new cases that were registered were those who were subject to quarantine as a precautionary measure since the discovery of the three previous cases, which prevented them from contacting other members of society, bringing the number of confirmed cases coronavirus in the country to 262 cases so far.

90% of the cases were detected by the investigation teams who examined hundreds of cases. There is an outbreak of the disease among Asian workers. The majority of injured workers are young adults. They have been hospitalized with incomplete isolation and continuously monitored. Field teams continue to visit and follow up on the active investigation.

Also according to the press conference held this evening by the Ministry, 9 locals are included in the new cases. There are 800 persons currently in quarantine and there are no recorded deaths, as mentioned by CDC Head Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal. According to Dr. Hamad Al-Rumaihi, the affected cases were revealed today through continuous research and investigation.

The Ministry of Public Health stated that the number of people infected with the virus is likely to increase among contacts of previously announced patients, who are subject to quarantine. The Ministry is calling on community members to be reassured that all declared cases are in good condition and are receiving medical care at the Communicable Disease Center.

Ministry officials also commented during the press conference that they trying to be as fast and as efficient as possible in preventing the virus from spreading through investigation, testing, and isolation. Senior officials added:

"We have conducted nearly 6,000 tests so far and it is time to seriously implement preventive measures for individuals. The virus is not widespread despite the cases that have been discovered. As a preventative measure, one should not shake hands and should not kiss the nose or the cheeks.
"800 people have been placed in quarantine so far as a precautionary measure, and tomorrow, a batch of citizens in quarantine will be released after making sure they are healthy.***

Dr. Al-Khal added that other cases may be discovered with the Coronavirus and the Ministry of Health is conducting major campaigns to control the virus. The Ministry of Public Health urges society to lead a normal life with caution.
