In a statement released on Qatar National Library's website, QNL will be closed to the public until further notice in the interests of the safety and wellbeing of the library's patrons and staff due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease COVID-19. This outbreak has also resulted in the closure of schools, universities, and other institutions in Qatar.

According to QNL, its extensive online platform that ensures opportunities for learning and to enjoy reading remain available. It provides resources that are accessible from anywhere with your membership, including ebooks, journals, magazines and newspapers, opportunities to stream video and music, and books and online activities for children and young adults. The Qatar Digital Library and our Digital Repository are also accessible to all users.

UPDATE: Regarding borrowed items

In a comment on its Instagram post, QNL replied that "All borrowed items will be automatically renewed until further notice, and no fines or penalties will apply during this time. You can still use the drive-thru book drop on the road outside the Library 24/7 and the automatic return station inside the Library's main entrance. Thin books, DVDs, and CDs can be returned at additional dedicated return bins at the Library's main entrance."
