The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) announced on 13 January 2023 that its Disciplinary Committee has taken many decisions against some federations whose teams participated in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This is due to the behaviour of some players, officials or fans during tournament matches.
FIFA stated on its official website that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee had sanctioned the Ecuadorian Football Association with a fine of CHF 20,000 (QR 78,527.70) and a partial stadium closure (the stands behind the goals) at the next official FIFA match to be played at "A" level by its men's national team for breaches of article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (Discrimination) in light of chants by Ecuadorian supporters during the Qatar v. Ecuador FIFA World Cup match.
The Committee has sanctioned the Mexican Football Association with a fine of CHF 100,000 (QR 392,638.52) and one match in a FIFA competition to be played behind closed doors by its men's national team (suspended for a probationary period) for breaches of article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (Discrimination) in light of chants by Mexican supporters during the Mexico v. Poland and Saudi Arabia v. Mexico FIFA World Cup matches.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the Football Association of Serbia with a fine of CHF 50,000 (QR 196,319.26) and a partial stadium closure (25% of the seats closed) at the next official FIFA match to be played at "A" level by its men's national team for breaches of articles 13 (Discrimination) and 12 (Misconduct of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code in light of chants by Serbian supporters and team misconduct (individual sanctions on seven players) during the Serbia v. Switzerland FIFA World Cup match.
Regarding Argentina, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association due to potential breaches of articles 11 (Offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play) and 12 (Misconduct of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, as well as of article 44 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Regulations in conjunction with the Media and Marketing Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, during the Argentina v. France FIFA World Cup final.
The International Federation also stated that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee had opened proceedings against the Croatian Football Association due to potential breaches of articles 13 (Discrimination) and 16 (Order and security at matches) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the Croatia v. Morocco FIFA World Cup match.
