On 4 January 2024, Doha Metro and Lusail Tram announced that passengers can now ride the Metrolink for free using their travel cards. The Standard and goldclub cards are the only valid cards that can be used for free travel.

Passengers can tap their travel cards on the Metrolink scanner to ride for free. Children above the age of 5 require a mandatory tap to ride the Metrolink. Passengers can still use the QR Code and Karwa Smartcard to ride the Metrolink.
