Stallions Cricket Team from Qatar concludes successful tour of UK

Stallions Cricket Academy, the coaching division of Stallions Sports Services WLL., has just returned to Qatar, following the successful completion of its inaugural tour of England. The 40-strong party, comprising of a mixture of young players, coaches, and parents, who embarked on the first ever tour of young cricketers from Qatar played over 12 matches in Leeds. Competing strongly against 7 teams from Dubai and the UK, Qatar’s youngsters proudly secured an overall third place. The Doha Team also won the indoor cricket tournament that was held at the indoor nets of the famous Headingly Stadium in Yorkshire.

As part of the tour the Officials from the Stallions Cricket Academy incorporated a visit to the home of cricket, Lords, in order to build enthusiasm and awareness towards the history, traditions, and culture associated with the game. The Lords visit included a well-planned, individual indoor coaching session where players used the latest “Hawk Eye” technology, to develop their personal style and talent. This is the first time young players have been exposed to technology of this caliber. Qatar’s youthful players were also mentored by professional coaches from the MCC Cricket Academy.

Many sponsors and well-wishers were behind the success of this tour. The main sponsors were Olympic Sports, Lulu Hypermarket, Doha Bank, Kanoo Freight Services, Solution Shipping and Marine Services and Globelink Weststar Shipping Services who supported the tour in many ways.

Commenting on the tour Head Coach of Stallions , Sidath Tennakoon said “We are delighted that the Stallions Cricket Academy has been successful in touring UK, in what we hope will be the first of many cricket tours to England. The touring team has been practicing for the past four months and we are extremely happy with the individual and team performance of the children.”.

Stallions Sports Services WLL has a group of passionate coaches who are well-qualified and experienced in coaching cricket, and who have also played first class cricket around the world. The academy in Qatar was launched with the purpose of developing the beautiful game of cricket in Qatar, and to provide opportunities to aspiring young cricketers to learn from quality, experienced coaching staff.

The Stallions are planning more tours in the future, with Dubai, Sri Lanka, Australia, and South Africa earmarked by the organizers as locations for the next leg of their world tour. Officials say that in the coming months, there will be a number of international cricketers who will visit Qatar to participate in Cricket Coaching camps, resulting in local young players being given the chance to excel, taking their talents and capabilities to new heights.
