Qatar defeated South Korea 34-27 in the main round of the 2020 Asian Men's Handball Championship in Kuwait on Monday. The Asian championship, which concludes on January 27, is also a qualifying meet for the World Championships that will take place in Egypt in 2021.
Qatar reached the main rounds of the event after topping their group in the preliminary round in Kuwait, marking commanding victories over China (49-18) and Japan (36-28). The 8 teams that qualified to the main round were divided into two groups where Group A includes Bahrain, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, while Qatar and South Korea are in Group B along with Kuwait and Iran. Eyeing a place in the semi-finals and in 2021 World Championship, defending champions Qatar will take on Iran in their second match in the main round on Tuesday.
