Nine athlete ambassadors announced world aquatics championships doha 2024

World Aquatics announced on 24 January 2024, 9 athlete ambassadors selected by the Doha 2024 Organising Committee for the World Aquatics Championships - Doha 2024 which will be taking place from 2-18 February 2024.

The ambassadors include former World Champions, Olympic medallists and star athletes who will be competing in the championships.

The ambassadors representing 9 different counties and four of the six disciplines in the competition will be promoting the championships in Doha.

The list of ambassadors is as follows:

  • Nada Mohamed Wafa Arakji - Host country ambassador who was the first Qatari woman to compete at the Olympic Games with her participating in swimming at London 2012
  • Yusra Mardini - originally from Syria before taking refugee status in Germany. She competed for the World Aquatics Refugee Team at a number of World Aquatics Championships and for the Olympic Refugee Team at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games, giving her the title of of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2022.
  • Ahmed Hafnaoui- Tunisian national who will be representing Africa. He is a winner of two gold medals at last year’s World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. He has also finished first in the men’s 400m freestyle at Tokyo 2020.
  • Anthony Ervin - Three-time Olympic gold medallist representing USA
  • Ranomi Kromowidjojo - Three-time Olympic gold medallist representing the Netherlands
  • Pernille Blume - Three-time Olympic gold medallist representing Denmark
  • Filip Filipovic - Two-time world champion and multiple World Player of the Year for water polo will be representing Serbia
  • Ona Carbonell Ballestero - Olympic medallist in artistic swimming, will be representing Spain
  • Alain Kohl - 3m springboard diver turned professional high-diver, representing Luxembourg

Khaleel Al Jaber, Doha 2024 Director General had expressed, “Our ambassadors have all gained great followings during their careers and will be able to amplify the success of Doha 2024 through their work, ensuring that the world is connected to the Championships.”
