The Qatar 2015 Men’s Handball World Championship Organising Committee, chaired by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, has decided to bring forward the competition’s opening date by two days to be January 15. The date change was announced after a meeting between HE Sheikh Joaan and International Handball Federation president Hassan Moustafa. Qatar 2015 Organising Committee director-general Dr Thani al-Kuwari said yesterday that the change would not affect the preparations of the participating teams “as there is enough time before the event, coming nine and a half months ahead of the World Championship”. The new date, he said, was more suitable, especially since it’s a Thursday so would allow more fans to attend the games. The draw for the competition will take place during Ramadan on July 20.
