Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) is gearing up for National Sports Day (NSD) that will see thousands of Doha residents descend on its unique sporting facilities and venues. Following the remarkable success of the last two NSD celebrations, AZF is offering families a whole day of fun with a variety of sporting and entertainment activities to suit all family members, both young and old. Registration is now open for residents to take part in a 4 kilometer fun run around Aspire’s facilities. ‘Free Run’, one of many Aspire races, managed to attract huge numbers last year, with more than 2,000 people joining the run as well as other events including the ‘5,000 Step Journey’ and the ‘Aspire Active Family Camp’. “These preparations are part of our mission to promote a healthy lifestyle here in the community. Everything we strive for is based on our close alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030 that highlights human and social development as target areas for the country’s overall success,” said Mohamed Ghaith Al Kuwari, Head of Aspire Zone Foundation’s Organizational Committee. “Through its members, Aspire Academy, Aspetar and Aspire Logistics, AZF will host 14 events that best represent the activities that currently take place year-round. These introductions will give new visitors the chance to familiarize themselves with the programs and hopefully come back to AZF to join these programs in the future,” he added. AZF Events Department Manager Abdullah Al-Khater is thrilled that 28 government and private organizations from a number of different sectors will be taking part in the NSD activities at Aspire’s facilities this year. “Qatar’s government and private sectors are keen to encourage employees to exercise and enjoy a full day of activity and that is something we are definitely providing at AZF,” he said. Companies that will join in AZF’s NSD celebrations include RasGas, Qatar TV, Ministry of Energy and Industry, General Retirement and Social Security, Qatar Cycling Federation, Qatar Development Bank, HMC Organs Donation Center, Civil Defense, Qatar Enterprise, ictQATAR, National Human Right Committee, and Carrefour. NSD celebrations first began in February 2012, after HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, the Emir of Qatar, issued a decree on December 2011 announcing that a national sports day would be held on the second Tuesday in February, every year. Employees from ministries, governmental agencies and public organizations are all invited to attend events, along with their families in order to promote the importance of sports for all.
