World Environment Day Celebration in Qatar 2012

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATION IN QATAR On the occasion of the 6th year WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY (WED) CELEBRATION IN QATAR, IAID in association with the Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC) under the auspices of Dr Saif Ali Al Hajari, Chairman of FEC is gearing up for another meaningful and inspiring WED celebration from 25th May – 5th June 2012. Initiated by the United Nations Environment Programme in 1972, the World Environment Day is an annual event that is widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action with activities running the whole year to culminate every 5th of June. This years’ event theme – “GREEN ECONOMY, DOES IT INCLUDE YOU?” address environmental, social and economic sustainability issues which calls for all sector to join effort in advocating to this special cause. The WED celebration aims to establish corporate and community partnership towards common shared values to ensure a safer and more prosperous future. Primarily, the mission of the event through its activities is to foster environmental education among today’s youth who will be the steward of tomorrow. One of the key initiative of this event is the WED Painting Contest which has successfully and continuously united arts and environmental awareness gathering creative enthusiasts from various schools, universities and general community in Qatar over the years. This year, guided by the theme SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT – the Painting Contest is set to gather 2000 participants covering all age group including adults. Moreover, highlighting this initiative is an Art Exhibition of the winning paintings and the WED 2012 Prize Awarding and Closing Ceremony to be held on 5th June at Qatar National Theatre which will be witnessed by prominent guests, event partners and families of the winners. WED 2012 continues to be in significance as a result of an overwhelming support from the corporates. As part of their strong commitment to the environment Al Khalij Commercial Bank (al khaliji) Q.S.C. takes the highest sponsorship level for the second time in a row as this year’s Diamond Sponsor.
