What She Said

Following the successful debut in September this year, W Doha hosted the return of ‘What She Said’ on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at its ballroom, the Great Room. Celebrating femininity and women pushing boundaries, this time around, the theme focused on the realm of education in collaboration with Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, to mark International Human Rights Day held on December 10 each year.

More than 150 women attended the evening at W Doha which kicked off with an opportunity to mix and mingle over mocktails and bites, followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion moderated by Bianca Brigitte Bonomi, Editor in Chief of Grazia Arabia. The panel included an inspiring line-up of four incredible Qatari women, each of whom is breaking boundaries in the field of education. They were; Hessa Al Noaimi, EAA Youth Advocate, Nawaal Akram, Comedian, Model, Athlete and Disability Rights Advocate, Tahani Al Hajri, Writer and Social Activist, and Reem Al Suwaidi, General Manager of Bedaya.

Each woman spoke about their individual journeys and challenges, whilst collectively they shared much-welcomed advice on how to overcome obstacles and the importance of building resilience as a key tool in the face of adversity. The conversation also explored the necessity of education in emergency responses, the importance of equitable education for all genders and disabilities, as well as the impact of education on conflict-affected communities.

The panel discussion closed with an engaging Q&A with the audience before guests joined emerging artist, Hessa Kalla for an interactive painting activation.

‘What She Said', a global speaker series, is a platform that brings together inspirational women and sparks conversations that inspire, educate and enlighten. The aim is to encourage and support women who navigate the challenges and triumphs of work and play to go after their goals no matter the obstacles faced.
