The Qatar University has finalised the list of students who will be granted scholarships for the new academic year beginning next month, says a report published in a local Arabic daily. Quoting the head of the scholarships unit in the admissions office, Nasser Rashed al-Merri, the report says that as many as 400 students will receive scholarships. Among them, 120 students will be from Islamic countries. The beneficiaries will not be paid any amount in cash but will be exempted from payment of course fees. They will be granted some other benefits according to the type of their scholarship. Explaining the different types of scholarships granted by the university, al-Merri said that there were scholarships based on academic merit and on the economic background of the student. The university has also allocated 20 merit scholarships (10 for boys and 10 for girls) for the children of expatriates residing in Qatar who score the highest percentage of marks - 95% and above - in the Qatari higher secondary school examination. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=311097&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
