Two new summer clubs for girls and new summer scouts centres will be set up in the country, the Minister of Culture, H E Hamad bin Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari, has said. The minister held a meeting with the department of youth affairs to follow up on the youth activities planned for this summer. The meeting was attended by Khaled Yousif Al Mulla, the head of the Youth Affairs department and the organising committee for the summer activities, and a number of officials from the ministry. Al Kuwari stressed on the importance of summer activities, and ways to occupy the time of students during their summer vacation with new and innovative activities, that the youth could relate and associate with. “Summer clubs and centres in Qatar play an important role in keeping our youth in a safe, productive and entertaining environment, and the ministry will allocate financial support for the second-class level camps which are spread all across the country to further improve their activities and services,” said Al Kuwari. There are around 40 summer clubs and camps around Qatar, and around 40,000 youth are associated with their summer activities, which will begin on July 1 and go on till mid-August. The summer activities in all the clubs will be concluded with celebrations and exhibitions in collaboration with the Department of Youth Affairs. Al Kuwari also revealed plans to develop two new summer clubs for girls in Doha and said the ministry will fully support these clubs and provide them with all the facilities to meet the needs of young girls in Qatar. The centres will also hold special workshops, conferences and meetings to provide cultural and educational support to young women in Qatar. He also welcomed the Qatari Scouts Association’s affiliation to the ministry, and said, “The Qatari Scouts Association interacts with an important young demographic, and we (the ministry) will provide the association with our full support, and we will integrate the association further into the ministry by creating new summer scout’s centres”. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=June2009&file=Local_News200906136435.xml
