State of Qatar emphasizes the needs of the elderly in disaster response

The State of Qatar stressed Wednesday that protecting the rights of the elderly in the context of disaster response requires a multidimensional approach that places their needs at the top of the humanitarian response plans, in terms of allocating funding and resources and providing appropriate humanitarian care and assistance.

This came during the speech of the State of Qatar during a discussion with Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of All Human Rights by Older Persons and Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development. The discussion was held as part of the 42nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The State of Qatar's speech was read by Second Secretary of the State of Qatar's Permanent Delegation in Geneva Mohammed Abdulla Al Buainain.

The State of Qatar stressed that as part of its international humanitarian efforts, it focused on being an essential and active partner in the field of global humanitarian action, through strengthening its regional and international partnerships in the field of relief for the affected, protecting civilians and providing developmental and humanitarian initiatives and assistance to countries facing economic and humanitarian crises and natural disasters.

As for the report of Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development, the State of Qatar stressed on the importance of implementing the sustainable development goals, saying that this was an important component of its 2030 national vision as well as the countries Second National Development Strategy 2018-2022.

The State of Qatar thanked Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of All Human Rights by Older Persons Rosa Kornfeld-Matte and Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development for their two reports.
