Spicy Pickle raises 10,000 Qatari Riyals in support of Qatar Cancer Society

Spicy Pickle, a popular American Franchise owned by “Food Fabulous Company” hosted the first ultimate Pickle Challenge in support of Qatar Cancer Society. The casual dining restaurant joined hands with the Harley Davidson group and the local community to raise money for the cause on Saturday, May 10th. The competition was initiated by Spicy Pickle Qatar, with the focus of encouraging the community to help QCS’s activities in terms of providing cancer patients with financial and moral support. Throughout the event, awareness brochures were distributed about the life threatening disease; the information booklets included tips on how to prevent cancer and gave advice on how individuals need to incorporate a healthier lifestyle in order to build a stronger disease fighting immune system. Mrs. Mariam Hamad Al Naemi, General Manager of the QCS has expressed her utmost gratitude to all the local companies & organizations that have helped donate to the cause. Mrs. Al Naemi also discussed the importance of helping QCS in spreading its message & objectives throughout the Qatar Community. The focus of the non-profit organization is to help combat various types of cancer locally as well as educate the public on ways of prevention and treatment. Adding to the event’s success, Mrs. Salma Maher, CEO of Food Fabulous, has voiced her happiness on the turnout of the competition. She emphasized that the Pickle Challenge was a fun and exciting way in which the company could help support QCS & its objectives. She also added that this is an important contribution to the community and that it is essential for all local entities to be contributing to such a life changing cause. The competition took place between members of the public and the Harley Davidson bike owners with a total of 20 contestants. The competition was held in two rounds consisting of 10 participants each, during which contestants were instructed to eat as many pickles as they could in a set period of two minutes. The concept of the challenge revolved around a sum of money raised through every pickle being eaten. The Food Fabulous Company added to the amount being donated, summing up to a total of 10,000 QAR being given to Qatar Cancer Society. Morever, Dr. Mahasen Okasha, head of Health Education Department at QCS has also expressed her gratitude for an ever growing awareness in Qatar about cancer, especially amongst varying social classes. The growing interest in the public is apparent through the response seen in various QCS awareness lectures throughout the country. She added that she has since then observed the enthusiasm of local organizations like Spicy Pickle who have lended a helping hand to QCS’s cancer awareness programs.
