Need a little retail therapy? The public will be able to get their shop-till-you-drop fix from January 7-February 7, 2017 as the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) kicks off the inaugural Shop Qatar festival under the slogan ‘A Brand New Tradition’.

The nation-wide festival will feature participating malls and retailers throughout Qatar and will offer customers cash prize of up to QR 4 million, special offers on hotel and flight bookings, discounts on popular brands and a host of top-tier entertainment options.

For starters, the Shop Qatar festival will host 15 stand-up comedy acts, live music concerts with Arab and Khaliji singers at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, and will bring the iconic Broadway musical Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats to the Qatar National Convention Centre from February 1-4. Tickets will be available in-store and online at Virgin Megastore starting from QR 150.

Official QTA festival partners are the Mall of Qatar, Ezdan World, and Qatar Airways, with other retail outlets across Qatar will be offering discounts of up to 50% on a variety of products from apparel, cosmetics, electronics, and more. Participating malls include Hyatt Plaza, Lagoona Mall, Ezdan Mall, Al Khor Mall, Landmark, Gulf Mall, The Gate, Dar Al Salam Mall, and The Pearl-Qatar.

Rashed Al Qurese, Chief Marketing and Promotion Officer, QTA, was optimistic in a statement to media on the festival lucrative timing in the GCC market. “Based on the increases in visitor arrivals during the months that have coincided with other tourism festivals, we anticipate that a festival during the winter months has an even bigger chance of attracting visitors, due to the offering combined with Qatar’s great winter weather. Shop Qatar is also timed to fall within mid-year holidays for potential visitors in neighbouring countries, which are our largest source markets.”
