H.E. President of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, today inaugurated the project of Qatari Diar Company in the Republic of Tunisia, Anantara-Tozeur Resort, in the presence of a number of ministers, ambassadors, dignitaries, and Qatari and Tunisian businessmen.

H.E. President of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani said that he is delighted to attend this distinguished occasion with the inauguration of the Qatari Diar project and proud of the achievement of the company on the Tunisian territory, which embodies the distinguished brotherly relations between the two countries and increases the economic relations between Qatar and Tunisia.

For his part, H.E. Tunisian Minister of Tourism and Acting Minister of Transport Rene Trabelsi praised the work accomplished at the resort, which represents a distinguished Qatari investment in the Republic of Tunisia and a testimony to the strength of the distinguished Qatari-Tunisian relations in all fields.

H.E. Chairman of Qatari Diar Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani said in his opening speech that Qatari Diar is delighted to open this resort today, which it hopes will be one of the main tributaries and distinct addition to tourism in the Republic of Tunisia.

His Excellency extended his thanks and gratitude to the Tunisian government, which spared no effort and provided continuous support and cooperation during the project as a result of this continuous cooperation, and a vivid manifestation of the strong relations between the Republic of Tunisia and the State of Qatar.

In his speech, the CEO of Qatari Diar Eng. Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah said that the opening of this resort is the culmination of the company's ongoing work over the past years since Qatari Diar purchased an area of 400,000 square meters in Tozeur in order to create a distinctive desert resort based on the cultural heritage of the region to provide a distinct experience bearing the imprint of Qatari Diar.

He explained that the company has allocated a huge investment as a budget for the project with a total investment value of more than 222 million Tunisian dinars (about QR 284 million).

He pointed out that as usual Qatari Diar and in pursuit of its strategic objectives, it always seeks to support the communities in which it operates, and this support represented the use of five local contractors for all the work in the project, also focused on the use of homemade materials accounted for about 84% of raw materials used in the project.

He pointed out that the company also hired local expertise in the operation of the project, where 238 Tunisian employees, 72% of whom are from Tozeur, are employed in the project, and the number of local employees in peak working hours reaches 500, the company hired them during the open day of employment in Anantara on 28 and 29 August 2019, and these numbers are expected to increase in the future, expecting a positive impact on the community during the operational period.

The Chairman of Minor Hotels Group Bill Heinecke, the owner of the Anantara brand, said that the Qatari Diar Anantara-Tozeur project is one of the best Anantara hotels in the world and the company is proud to select Qatari Diar to manage this unique resort.

Just a 12-minute drive from Tozeur-Nefta International Airport, Anantara Tozeur Resort, the luxury gateway to the charm of the desert, is located in the heart of the desert.

The resort, which is wholly owned by Qatari Diar, includes 93 hotel units, ranging from rooms, suites, and villas, as well as two VIP villas. It features several health and spa facilities, a sports club, tennis courts, swimming pools, cultural village, retail shops, and restaurants.

The project was built by Qatari Diar in line with the development agreement signed between Qatari Diar and the Tunisian government with a total investment value of more than 222 million Tunisian dinars (about QR 284 million).

Qatari Diar Real Estate Company was established in 2005 by the Qatar Investment Authority, the sovereign wealth fund of the State of Qatar. Diar was entrusted to support Qatars growing economy and to coordinate the country's real estate development priorities.

As of January 2018, Qatari Diar has a shared capital of USD 8 billion, with 60 investment projects under development or held in 24 countries around the world, combining a value of over USD 35 billion.
