Mr. Essa Al-Mannai, Executive Director of Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), participated in panel discussions at the opening ceremony of the Watan 4th Annual Conference to discuss the educational challenges faced by the Syrian people.

Sponsored by Qatar Charity, the conference took place from the 10th to 12th December 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey. As a member of QF, ROTA’s participation is aligned to its vision to unlock human potential to empower sustainable community development. ROTA supports QF’s mission to provide world-class education and to nurture the development of progressive societies by addressing urgent social needs.

The three-day conference discussed the educational challenges faced by the Syrian refugees, along with the difficulties encountered by teachers in improving education in Syria, the importance of assessment to evaluate the current situation, and how other nations can contribute to improving the sector and providing possible solutions.

The Watan Organization invited Mr Al Mannai and Mr. Farooq Burney, Director of the Fakhoora initiative, a subsidiary of global initiative Education Above All, to participate in the education workshop. Watan aims to reach the best mechanisms and methodologies for the implementation of the project "Education in Crisis", with the objective of training 5,000 teachers and reaching 100 thousand children.

Speaking about ROTA’s participation in the conference, Mr Al Mannai commented: "ROTA’s priority is to help children and youth receive a high standard of education. We are here today to reaffirm our continued support to the Syrian people and to give them the peaceful future they dream of."

Held under the slogan "Together", the conference took place with the participation of 350 leaders and decision-makers in the institutions of civil society in Syria and around the world, with the mandate to discuss the challenges facing the Syrian people and try to find innovative solutions to meet these challenges.
