Qtel yesterday announced the launch of the innovative new My-Fi personal mobile hot spot, the pioneering device that enables people to create their own Internet access from anywhere in Qatar. With up to five people able to access the device at any time, using laptops, SmartPhones, gaming consoles or any other Wi-Fi enabled devices, My-Fi is likely to be one of the most popular launches of the year for Qtel. This is the first time that advanced My-Fi devices have been made available in Qatar, and Qtel is one of the first operators in the region to offer the device to all customers, building on the wider “Broadband Qatar” strategy. The My-Fi device, which is smaller than the average mobile phone, has up to four hours battery life and enables up to five people using WiFi capable devices to access the Internet completely without wires, at speeds up to 7.2Mbps running over Qatar’s most reliable 3G Mobile Broadband Network. Qtel customers can effectively create their own secure personal wireless hotspot anywhere in Qatar, with special security features that means they can choose who can use the My-Fi device to access the Internet. Available for just QR 639, My-Fi works with the full range of Qtel’s Mobile Broadband price plans. Experts at Qtel believe there will be strong demand for the new devices, particularly since Qatar is among the first countries in the GCC to make this exciting new technology available. In particular, Qtel’s advanced 3G Mobile Broadband network enables people to access the Internet anywhere – in malls, in homes and in offices across the country. My-Fi brings together a 3G modem and Wi-Fi router in the same device, and is battery-operated to provide full mobility. Once the device has been activated, it can connect to the Qtel Mobile Broadband Network in just a few seconds, so that laptops and Wi-Fi devices can immediately connect to the internet. Qtel offers customers a range of Post-paid (Shahry) Mobile Broadband price plans starting with the Lite 2GB plan, Plus 5GB plan and an Unlimited Mobile Broadband plan which provides unlimited monthly access to the Internet. Customers selecting the Unlimited plan on a yearly subscription will also be given a free USB Modem. Qtel also offers 3-day, 10-day and 30-day price plans for Pre-paid customers. The Qtel My-Fi E5832 Personal 3G Mobile Hot Spot device is available from Qtel Shops and other participating Premium Dealers. Meanwhile, Qtel has fixed a server issue that caused some disruption to BlackBerry services over the weekend and has apologised for any inconvenience customers may have encountered. The error, which occurred on the international network that carries traffic between Qtel and RIM, the international provider of BlackBerry services, was detected at 22:25pm on Saturday, April 3. Full service has now been restored, and customers can continue to use the service without interruption or access issues. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=April2010&file=Local_News2010040731451.xml
