Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) begins an inspection and evaluation process this week, paying visits to Ramadan tents, hotels and other tourism establishments to assess quality and compliance with local customs and traditions.

Inspectors will ensure hotels and similar establishments are taking into account the special nature of Ramadan and being considerate towards Muslim tourists and residents throughout the Holy Month.

QTA representatives will also inspect the quality of food, the diversity of dishes and their presentation at Iftar and Suhour. Décor, lighting and quality of entertainment as well as how heavily popular local dishes feature on the menu will also be surveyed.

“We evaluate hotel and tourism establishments on an ongoing basis to ensure we are consistently raising the standards of the hospitality sector, and preserving local heritage in places frequented by tourists,” commented Mohamed Al-Ansari, Head of Licensing at QTA. “Evaluations in this period specifically are based on metrics developed by our specialists to ensure licensed establishments are in line with the special practices of the Holy Month.”

Al-Ansari added that performance in these evaluations contributes to the selection process at the Annual Tourism Awards hosted by QTA.

QTA had recently issued a memo to hotel and tourism establishments with instructions to assist them in ensuring experiences that are appropriate to religious and national holidays, as part of the Authority’s efforts to develop hospitality and tourism regulations.
