Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) has bagged the Commercial/Mixed Use Built Project Award at Cityscape for its desert inspired building. The award was presented by Cityscape for the purpose of celebrating architectural excellence. The Cityscape awards play a critical and prominent role in promoting, developing and recognising industry innovators and achievers in emerging markets. Dr Tidu Maini, Science and Technology Advisor, Chairman of QSTP, said: “This, and the previously won awards, are a confirmation of the ingenuity and success of Woods Bagot and a true reflection of our aspirations. They have managed to create a futuristic design in harmony with Qatari culture. The scale and success of our research with the best in class partners is a practical deliverable of Her Highness’s vision for QSTP”. QSTP provides a world class environment for technology development in four different, yet complementing areas of research: Energy, Environment, Health and Information and Communications Technology (ICT). These areas of research lie at the centre of Qatar’s National Vision which promotes human, social, environmental and economic development. Alf Seeling, Design Director for Woods Bagot in the Middle East, said: “For the Qatar Foundation this development demonstrated to the world a different way of doing things – Qatar wanted to announce a new global benchmark for science parks with an identity that is unique to the country.” http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=October2009&file=Local_News200910120255.xml
