The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has launched a project worth QR33m to develop roads linking Al Wakra town with the under-construction Barwa Village. The project includes construction of integrated water and electricity distribution, sewage and telecommunication networks in line with Ashghal’s new road network system. Ashghal has already signed an agreement with Marbo Contracting Company covering 2.68 million square metres to develop road networks outside Barwa Village. The project will cover cleaning, waste removal works, relocation of construction material and laying asphalt on the roads. While developing the new road network, the contracting company will take the necessary precautions with the oil and gas pipelines in the area and concrete walls will be built parallel to the proposed roads in locations where the height of the earth pile is more than seven metres, sources said. Ashghal has signed an agreement with Bin Omran Trade and Contracting Company to develop roads in Madinat Khalifa (South). The project works, scheduled to be finished in April 2011, will cover the areas between Al Markhiya Roundabout and Al Jawazat (passports) Roundabout, and the Khalifa and Omer ibn Al Khattab roads. Infrastructure development in the area includes building new roads, a car park and a storm water drainage system, laying tiles on footpaths, modernisation of the sewage system, electricity works and street lighting works. Ashghal has also signed a contract with QBS International Company to develop Madinat Khalifa (North) and the Al Markhiya area. The project, to be finished in September 2011, includes development of internal roads, infrastructure, laying of asphalt, pavements and footpaths, and street lighting works. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=February2010&file=Local_News2010020964622.xml
