A volleyball tournament opens today as part of the Qatar Workers Cup 2013 season. Following the successful conclusion of the Ooredoo Qatar Workers Cups for Basketball and Cricket – the volleyball competition will be the concluding event of the season. The Workers Cup Programme, which is delivered by QSports and strategic partners the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, is a ground breaking community engagement programme, which aims to reach out to all sectors of Qatari society through sports. Companies based in Qatar have registered for the tournament and then ensure that their employees have the opportunity to play in the tournament. A total of 12 teams have registered for the Ooredoo Volleyball Workers Cup — with 12 players eligible to represent each team. Some of the teams who signed up included Anvin Qatar, ETA Star Engineering, Milaha, UAE Exchange and UGL. The tournament will include a series of group games followed by the top placed teams qualifying for the knock-out semi-final stage. The tournament is scheduled to be concluded before Ramadan with prize money and trophies provided by Ooredoo to be presented to the winning teams next month.
