Qatar will play a friendly against Wellington FC in a rescheduled fixture today, Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced on Saturday.
Qatar who are in Australia to prepare for next week’s Asian Cup were scheduled to play against New Zealand today.
However, with the non-availability of New Zealand team players – who appear for their sides in various European leagues – has forced QFA to schedule a game against Wellington FC.
Al Anabi will play their game against Wellington at Cenberra’s Australian Institute of Sport pitch where they played against Oman three days ago.
Qatar take on the UAE on January 11 followed by games against Iran (January 15) and Bahrain (January 19) in Group C of the Asian Cup.
Coach Djamel Belmdai is heading the Qatar squad’s training sessions in Canberra, the home base for Al Anabi during their Asian Cup trip.
Meanwhile Asian Cup organisers have also announced the media schedules for Qatar in Group C.
Qatar coach Belmadi will address the media in a traditional gathering where press persons meet coaches of the teams featuring in the event.
RIGOROUS TRAINING
Qatar squad on Friday underwent rigorous training ahead of their final friendly in lead up to next week’s Asian Cup, the region’s top football event.
Friday’s training sessions were headed by coach Djamel Belmadi who has guided the team to 11 matches without a loss ahead of their friendly against Wellington FC.
On December 31, 2014, Qatar drew with Oman 2-2 at the same venue. The Asian Cup will be held across Australia from January 9 to 31.
The region’s top 16 teams will feature at the three-week event which was last held in Doha in 2011. Fans will be hoping that Qatar’s winning form continues.
