Qatar is planning to launch a Media City in Doha, which is expected to host around 25,000 people from around the world, at a specially designated zone. The site for the project has been identified and a feasibility study has got the approval from the higher authorities, a source told Al Sharq daily. The project is a joint venture between Aljazeera Network, Qatari Diar and Qatar Media. Aljazeera will have a 50 percent stake, while Qatari Diar and Qatar Media will have 25 percent each. The Media City, which will be located in Lusail, will be different from other media cities in the region and will be a model for them. “The model we have is an innovative one,” a source said, adding that a manager for the project has been appointed. It is learnt that an agreement has been concluded with an international law firm to prepare the laws to govern the city and ensure their compatibility with Qatari law, the daily added. The project is expected to be a key funding source for the various projects of Aljazeera network. “When completed, Aljazeera will be depending on it for its plans and resources.” The source said that the network had several plans including the launch of an international news agency to be named Aljazeera. It can make use of its huge network of correspondents and reporters across the globe to go for such project. Building upon its English Channel, the Aljazeera network is now planning major expansion. The source added that the network also has a plan to offer its service in Turkish language. Some other languages are also being considered by the channel including Urdu and Malawi, the source said.
