An unnamed Qatari company is one of a number of potential investors in the running to build a convention centre in the Peruvian city of Callao, official reports have confirmed.
Peru's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Jose Luis Silva said Qatar was competing with “several European and Latin American companies interested in the project,” the Peru News Agency reported.
He said that the project will reclaimed about one million square metres from the sea and will include sports facilities, hotels, a shopping centre, fairground, an aquarium, a museum, among others, the report added. The evaluation process is expected to commence in the coming weeks.
In April, Qatar signed a draft agreement on economic, trade investment and technical co-operation with the government of Peru.
