Qatar Customs announced on 31 August 2023, that the Land Customs Department thwarted travellers from attempting to smuggle various narcotic substances when coming to the country via Abu Samra border crossing. The customs inspector, following suspicion, inspected their personal bags and found 11 Lyrica narcotic tablets.

Upon conducting a self-search, approximately 121 grams of the narcotic substance hashish and 45 narcotic pills of various types were found hidden discreetly in dispersed locations within their bodies.
