According to a report by The Peninsula, the Aquatic Research Center at Ras Matbakh in Qatar has made great strides in the fish farming sector after producing 8 million fish fingerlings or young fish in three years from 2020 to 2022.
The Aquatic Research Center is managed and operated by the Ministry of Municipality's Fish Affairs Department and are producing fingerlings of fish to be released in the waters of Qatar to boost the food security in the country.
Speaking to Al Rayan TV, Director of Aquatic Research Center Ibrahim Salman Al Muhannadi shares, “We produced 8 million fingerlings of local fish from 2020 to 2022. About 6 million fingerlings out of them were released in the sea.”
He also mentions that 1.2 million fingerling of Sha’m fish and 50,000 fingerlings of Hamour fish were provided to Samakna, a fish farming project in floating cages offshore north of Qatar.
“As many as 1.4 million (PL 20) shrimp larvae were given to Agrico Shrimp Farm far fattening,” continues Al Muhannadi.
