In a Tweet, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Education has announced that Al Wakra, Qatar has won the 2021 UNESCO Learning City Award, stating:

According to its website, ten cities with outstanding achievements in the implementation of the learning city strategy received the UNESCO Learning Cities Award 2021 on 27 October 2021.
The cities were selected by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, upon the recommendation of an independent jury of international experts.
