Former Dakar Rally champion Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah will join the Qatar Team in the Super Boat International Racing series to be held at Key West, Florida, in November (3-10). “We are happy to have Nasser on board. He is immensely talented and we are confident he can do well,” said Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF) President HE Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al Thani, while addressing a Press conference at the Doha Sheraton Hotel yesterday. “Nasser was using our workshop facilities for his rally car in April this year. He saw our boats there and expressed his desire to try out powerboats. We offered him the seat and he accepted. We have taken Matteo Nicolini on board and he will be his throttleman,” he added. Nasser is the most successful Arab rally driver of all time on a global scale. He has won 48 FIA Middle East Rally Championship events, eight regional titles in the past 10 years and numerous cross-country rallies around the globe. The Qatari also won the FIA Production World Rally Championship in 2006 and the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies in 2008. l-Attiyah is a keen follower of many forms of sport and is also a prolific shooter. He represented Qatar at the 2004 Olympic Games in clay pigeon shooting and came fourth. He won the bronze medal for Qatar at London 2012. He has also featured strongly in several Asian Games. I am really looking forward to it. I will take part in the Key West race and then the plan is to join the team again at the new Qatar Cup next year,” said Nasser. Source:Qatar chronicle
