The Ministry of Defence has called 700 to 800 government employees for compulsory military service and handed them military uniforms.
A list of all government employees in various ministries and other entities has been prepared and will be handed over to the Minister of Defence Affairs tomorrow.
The list will be transferred to ministries and other institutions to inform the concerned individuals about the service so that they can prepare themselves to join training in the beginning of next month, said Brigadier Mohammed Misfer Al Ayadi, Commander of Student Training Center at the Ministry of Defence.
He added that the training centre took into account the importance of daily work in ministries and other institutions before preparing the list as there was a need to strike a balance between the needs of the ministries and the national service.
He said that if there is a possibility of daily work getting affected if a particular individual is called for service, the concerned ministry can request a postponement of the service for that individual.
The first phase of training will include a large number of trainees, while employees are being prepared for the next stage.
There is a plan to expand the military training centre in Al Shamal in order to absorb more trainees.
On how the employees are called for service, Br Al Ayadi told Al Sharq: “We contact them by telephone directly, and those who cannot be reached by telephone are sent letters asking them to contact the Student Training Center.”
