The Ministry of Municipality announced on 27 February 2024 that the months of March & April 2024 will be a ban period for crab fishing.

Blue crab fishing is prohibited. The catching and trading of egg-carrying crabs is also prohibited during this breeding season.

Crab fishing will only be permissible for boats and vessels licensed by the ministry.

A penalty of QR 5,000 will be imposed on violators of the ban.

The ban period is implemented in order to preserve the crab stock and protect the crabs during the breeding season.
