Ministry of Municipality and Environment built artificial coral reef and cultivated seaweed in a stretch of 14,000 sqm last year to protect marine life under its massive actions to conserve biodiversity. Biodiversity generally refers to the variety and variability of life on Earth.

In 2017, a total of 11,595 natural hard coral reefs and 500 soft coral reefs were shifted for the purpose of protection. And 31,656 Avicennia trees (Quram) of mangrove reallocated at coastal area. Details about the protection of marine life in Qatar were shared by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment on its social networking sites on the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity.

United Nations Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity is celebrating 25 years of action for biodiversity today. “For the past 25 years, parties to UN Biodiversity have been undertaking actions to conserve biodiversity, use it sustainably, and equitably share the benefits from the use of genetic resources. Working hard for a better world,” tweeted @UNBiodiversity.

The Ministry, in coordination with the authorities concerned, took the necessary measures for the protection of marine environment and marine biodiversity in Qatar resulting in new coral reef sites were added within environmental protection.

Qatar is interested in conserving the biodiversity of its marine environment, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which calls for the protection and preservation of its natural environment.

The efforts of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment have born fruits in farm of the production of huge coral reef and seaweed at Halul Island.
