Parents were found to be involved in a majority of cases (79 percent) of violence against children, said a Child Consultant at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). “Parents were held accountable for 79 percent of child violence cases, however the relatives were blamed seven percent and friends for 10 percent of violence against children,” said Dr Khalid Al Saadi,” Consultant of Children at HMC. “In the cases of child violence, 16 percent became victims of physical assaults, nine percent sexual abuses, seven percent misbehaviours and seven percent ignorance,” said Al Saadi. The Child Protection Law will be issued soon to cope with the cases of violence against children. It is very difficult to find clear evidence in the cases of violence against children, the team probing the case has to search and rely on clues, he added. He was speaking at a two -day workshop organised by the Qatar Foundation for Combating Human Trafficking in collaboration with HMC. The workshop was held to educate and train staff of the private sector on how to disclose and deal with child violence cases.
