Local production during siege reaches 300%

Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi said that the local production during the siege period increased 300 percent.

He said that the Ministry is seeking to provide all means and forms of support to various owners of productive farms and halal breeders in order to achieve the desired goal. “The Ministry has allocated QR105m for 2018 of the budget for support to the agricultural, fish and livestock sector with a view to achieving food security, in addition, QR70m allocated for the next five years,” the Minister added.

The Minister said that the Ministry, in cooperation with the national farms and the halal breeders, has succeeded in achieving a major boom in local production through supporting and encouraging farm owners, livestock breeders and fishermen.

“The Ministry has decided to expand the sources of sales and marketing to cover the remarkable increase in production,” the Minister added, expressing hope that the level of production would raise from 40 to 50 percent throughout the year.

This came during Minister’s meeting with a number of distinguished people in the agricultural sector, including the owners of productive farms, livestock breeders, fish farms and owners of nature reserves, in recognition of their efforts in developing local production in various fields.

The Minister said that the aim of the attention to develop local production is to increase self-reliance, self-sufficiency and protect the Qatari product from the effects of external products and external market, through regulating the process of entry of goods, noting that the State has taken a number of actions in this regard.

The Minister of Municipality and Environment thanked all the owners of local farms for their outstanding contribution in supporting the local market during the unjust siege imposed on the State of Qatar since the beginning of last June, thanks to the unlimited support of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

He thanked the owners of nature reserves for their efforts in preserving the environment and its sustainability, stressing that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment will continue to provide all support to them in order to achieve what everyone aspires to the advancement and prosperity of the State of Qatar.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister honoured the owners of productive farms, livestock breeders, fish farms and owners of nature reserves with financial rewards amounting to QR4.1m.(Source)
