SAFETY on roads through high-quality driving skills is the focus of the driving school run by Karwa Transport Training and Development Centre, says centre’s marketing co-ordinator Ahlan Adel al-Tanbour. The training centre is among the few schools to use high- quality roll over simulators and seat belt conveyers as part of the training programme, said al-Tanbour who made a history last year when she became the first woman in Qatar to drive a bus. The centre also offers facilities for training the physically challenged people and runs classes from 3am to 9pm. The marketing official said as the centre received a number of inquiries for training slots in the evening, they extended the traing time up to 9pm. “When the centre selects instructors, it ensures that trainees get the trainers of their choice, preferably one who speaks their own language.” While highlighting the necessity of high-quality driving and road safety, the official said recently she came across a group of students from a local school, each of who drove vehicles without licence. “When I pointed out the problems that they could encounter in the absence of licence, especially when stringent traffic laws are in place, some of them immediately agreed to join even full period course,” she said, adding a few of them have already started their lessons. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=266474&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
