As part of its commitment to empower the country’s youth, INJAZ Qatar, a non-profit organization and member of Junior Achievement Worldwide (JA), launched its latest entrepreneurial program in partnership with Boeing, the world's largest aerospace company. Marking the third year Injaz and Boeing have partnered to promote business acumen among young Qatari entrepreneurs, the new ‘Start-Up’ Program aims to inspire a culture of entrepreneurship and business innovation.
The Boeing-sponsored program offers carefully selected teams, each with three to six members, a combination of seed funding and professional mentorship. Supported by Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC), the ongoing program will run for a total of two years, helping viable ideas come to fruition and ultimately contribute toward the economic development of Qatar. One team of participants taking part in the ‘Start-Up’ Program are winners of this year’s Mubadara the INJAZ Qatar Young Enterprise of the Year Competition.
INJAZ Chairwoman, Sheikha Hanadi, said: “Incubation and funding are central to transforming ideas into fully fledged businesses. We are grateful for the support of Boeing and all of our corporate partners, schools, universities and volunteers. The Start-Up Program will offer university winners of our Mubadara competition the chance to develop their business ideas with seed funding and will hopefully attract new donors to be part of our initiative that will elevate local entrepreneurs and bring new start-ups to the global arena.”
Also present at the launch event was Jeffrey Johnson, president of Boeing Middle East, who said, “Together with INJAZ Boeing is helping to propel Qatari start-ups to the global stage. By preparing these talented individuals with all the tools needed to grow a successful business, the Start-Up Program removes tough entry barriers and enables unrestricted creativity that will contribute to the country’s economic prosperity and competitiveness.”
Through its many initiatives, dedicated to uncovering talent among youth and providing support to their projects, INJAZ Qatar is equipping companies in their infancy with the right tools and knowledge to prosper. Since its initiation, INJAZ Qatar has supported more than 14,000 students, with the help of as many as 550 corporate volunteers. A total of 38 schools and seven universities have been involved with INJAZ’s three pillars of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
During the event a short film entitled METFAME was screened, which showcased the winners of the Mubadara competition held earlier this year. The video highlighted the key strengths of the winning team’s company, and shed light on the team’s journey and consequent success.
