The German Embassy in Doha on Wednesday, 12 November 2014 celebrated the Day of German Unity at the St. Regis Hotel Doha. Coincidentally it was also the 25th anniversary since the fall of the Berlin Wall which had divided Germany for almost 3 decades.
HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Trade, was the guest of honour. After the opening speech of Ambassador Angelika Storz-Chakarji His Excellency the Minister joined her for the (traditional) cake cutting ceremony.
In her speech Ambassador Storz-Chakarji noted that the Berlinwall was the embodiment of Germany’s division as a country and that its fall marked the end of an era which had governed Europe’s political map and way of life after World War II.
Around 800 distinguished guests, among them government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and key business people, attended the celebrations.
