Expatriates serving in the Qatari defence and public security forces can now avail of long-term soft loans up to five times their basic salaries for personal and family needs provided they have completed at least one year of service. The Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has ratified a proposal of the Cabinet (No 23 of 2009) making it possible for Qatari as well as non-Qatari servicemen and employees of various public security departments access to long-term soft loans for personal or family needs. The salaries and terminal benefits of the servicemen and public security personnel seeking loans will act as collateral, the decision suggests. Loans will be available for building houses, for personal or family’s medical needs or for marriage of the serviceman or his blood relatives. However, proof of the reason for which a loan is being sought will have to be produced. The loan amount in the case of Qatari public security personnel and servicemen will be 10 times their basic salaries. http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=April2009&file=Local_News2009041445915.xml
