The Environment Intersection on Al Khafji Street has opened to traffic after being converted from a roundabout to a signal-controlled intersection.
The remaining sidewalk pavement works are in progress and expected to be completed by May-end. The opening of the intersection is part of works under Al Khafji Street Development Project.
This is the third phase of the project which included converting the Environment Roundabout to a signal-controlled intersection and the expansion of Al Khafji Street from three to four lanes. The first and second phases of the project have been completed, and included converting Al Hazm and Jelaiha roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections.
The development project is part of vital projects implemented by Ashghal to improve and enhance the network of roads and expressways and traffic safety across the country.
Road enhancement works include converting roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections, installing Intelligent Transportation Systems, street lighting and pedestrians’ paths, among others. (Source)
