THERE are enough taxis to meet the needs of customers in Doha, feels Craig William Dalgleish, Mowasalat’s director of taxis and limousines. Dalgleish said this to The Gulf Times replying to a query yesterday on the sidelines of the formal opening of the Mowasalat’s new LPG filling facility at the company’s compound in Mesaimeer. The taxi director said at any given time, the company has at least 1,500 vehicles on the roads. This is besides the number of vehicles being regularly serviced and maintained at the company’s workshop facilities. “Our focus at the moment is to reduce considerably the waiting time of customers asking for taxis,” he said. The official claimed the company had succeeded in reducing the waiting time in the past few months with the installation of more sophisticated equipment at its calling centre and also with the introduction of radio services on more than 100 taxis. To another question, Dalgleish said the company is now planning more taxi ranks in various parts of Doha city and its outskirts. “Our studies have indicated that between 70-80 % of the city and surroundings are covered by our vehicles operated from the present ranks,” he said. The Karwa official said the company feels that if more vehicles are stationed at the ranks, the availability of waiting customers on roads would be heavily hit. The official disclosed that the company plans to open taxi ranks in the newly built Barwa housing colony in Mesaimeer. “Discussions were held with Barwa officials and we are hopeful that Karwa would be able to operate taxis from the location as and when the location is finally commissioned,” he said. The Karwa official added that inquiries were coming in from Pearl Qatar about the possibility of setting up a taxi rank there. Dalgleish said the company’s taxi rank at The Landmark Mall would be ready soon and the availability of taxis from the location would be improved in coming months. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=261293&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16 Someone let him try to hail a cab right NOW on the corniche.
