THE world’s biggest meeting of newspaper editors and publishers will be held in Doha next year, The Peninsula can reveal. For the first time in their histories, the 63rd World Association of Newspapers (WAN) Congress and the 17th World Editors’ Forum will be held in an Arab country. More than 1,500 editors, publishers, senior news executives and journalists from 110-plus countries will converge on Doha for the event, the securing of which is considered a coup. It is understood the WAN will finalise plans, venues and dates to hold the event in Doha when it meets later this month. In 2007, the event was held in Gothenburg, Sweden and this year’s event is due to be held in Hyderabad, India in December. Founded in 1948, the World Association of Newspapers represents more than 18,000 publications on the five continents. The World Editors’ Forum gathers more than 450 senior editors from around the world. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=February2009&file=Local_News2009021224321.xml
