Crimes rates in Qatar drop

The Ministry of the Interior succeeded in reducing the rate of committing major crimes in 2018 per 100,000 inhabitants from the rate of global security by 98.3 percent, despite the increase in the population in the state during the year 2018 by 3.6 percent.

Statistics and indicators of the Ministry of Interior for 2018 showed a significant reduction in the rate of criminal offenses committed during 2018 per 100,000 people, where murder recorded 0.4, a decrease of 95 percent from the global rate of eight cases of murder.

In the aggravated assault, it recorded 0.2, a decrease of 99.8 percent from the global rate of up to 100 assaults. It recorded 0.1 in burglary cases, 99.9 percent below the global average of 100 burglaries, 0.1 in deliberate fire crimes, which is 99.6 percent lower than the global average of 25, and 0.6 cases of forced theft, 99.4 percent lower than the global average of up to 100 crimes.

This is due to the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in maintaining security and preventing crime and reassuring citizens and residents.

Thanks to the efforts of the General Directorate for Drug Enforcement, statistics and indicators of the Ministry of Interior showed significant decrease in the rate of drug abuse in the country. The rate of drug abuse was 0.1 percent of the total population, a decrease of 95 percent from the global rate of abusers, which is 2 percent.

The security indicators were very positive and exceeded the global proportions.

The statistics revealed that the total number of crimes in 2018 decreased by 2.4 percent compared with 2017. 88.3 percent of the total crimes committed in 2018 were minor crimes, such as check cases, violations, non-criminal quarrels.

Major crimes against public security accounted for 0.1 percent of all crimes committed in 2018. Statistics showed a decline in crime rates in 2018 by 14.5 percent compared to 2017.

The crime of forgery decreased by 31.8 percent compared to 2017, crimes of minor assaults and quarrels by 19.1 percent, crimes of breach of trust by 18.8 percent, crimes of non-payment by 16.3 percent and the theft of cars by 13.9 percent. This shows a marked improvement in the level of security situation in the country compared to 2017.

In addition, the Ministry has developed its performance level efficiently and effectively through its keenness in the development of human resources through training programs.

The indicators showed capacity building and upgrading of the skills of 30,000 employees at the work place and the enrollment of 2000 employees annually in internal and external courses. This has resulted in raising the level of their skills and practical experience. The Ministry also increases the number of women employees in the Ministry annually by (5 percent).

The indicators showed an increase in the percentage of job satisfaction among the female staffs of the Ministry to 90 percent. In addition, the Ministry reserves a large number of office posts for people with special needs.

In the service and awareness fields, the 2018 indicators recorded significant progress compared to the achievements of 2017. Service transactions to the public increased by 3.2% in 2018 to 72,200,506 transactions during the year.

In 2018, the Medical Services Department of the Ministry of Interior provided medical services to 701,654 patients. The Civil Defense Department of the Ministry in 2018 extinguished 1922 fire incidents and carried out 1203 rescue and relief operations.

As for awareness, the number of awareness programs, activities and awareness initiatives implemented by the Ministry increased by 5 percent. The number of students of schools and universities benefiting from awareness programs of the Ministry of the Interior increased by 10 percent.

The number of beneficiaries increased by 5 percent in 2018, compared to the previous year 2017, as well as increased the number of awareness programs provided to the communities by 5 percent from the previous year, and the number of expatriate workers benefiting from the Ministry's awareness programs by 10 percent.
