With Ramadan right around the corner, Aspire Zone Foundation has closed registration and held technical meetings for participants taking part in the various sporting activities held as part of this year’s Ramadan Sports Festival.

In preparation for the festival, members of the organising committee held several technical meetings with teams and administrators set to take part in the football, volleyball and the futsal competitions. Further meetings will be held for the remaining sports, such as cricket and hockey, in the days leading up to the festival.

At the technical meetings, participants were briefed on the competitions rules and guidelines. A draw was also held for each tournament to determine the teams competing in the group stages and final schedule of matches.

What makes RSF a distinct event in Qatar is that it offers various sports to accommodate the interests of all community members, that extend beyond football. In total, AZF has seven sports incorporated in this year’s RSF. These include football, futsal tournaments for AZF staff and juniors below the age of 16; Indoor hockey, held for the first time in Qatar; table tennis competitions, held for people with special needs; as well as football, volleyball, basketball, and cricket.

A special day for AZF’s female staff and their children will also be allocated for those looking to exercise privately. The event’s unique features are made available thanks to the versatile pitches at the Aspire Dome, the largest multi-purpose dome of its kind in the world.

The Ramadan Sports Festival is an annual sport that runs for two weeks. Thousands of members from the local community are expected to participate in sports tournaments taking place across Aspire Zone’s world class sporting facilities. This year’s festival is sponsored by Ooredoo and Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Co.

The festival is an excellent example of the year-round programme of activities hosted by AZF at its world-class facilities designed to cater to all members of the community. Aspire Zone has become one of most popular destinations for Qatar’s residents to take part in sporting activity as well as enjoy a wide range of cultural activities.
