IT was a well-appreciated demonstration of the true spirit of Ramadan, according to the cab drivers who took part in the ‘Iftar for Cabs’ hosted by the Sheraton Hotel on Tuesday. About 100 cab drivers received the packs specially prepared by the hotel management for its annual programme. The initiative was simultaneously held throughout the Starwood properties across the Middle East. “This is our way of giving back to the community. Most of the taxi drivers don’t have the opportunity to have iftar. We felt this programme was a good contrition to the community on behalf of Sheraton Doha and other Starwood properties. Sheraton Doha has been doing it in the previous years and we got a great response for the efforts,” Sheraton Doha General Manager Steven W Kalcyznski told Qatar Tribune. The iftar pack comprised light snacks such as sandwich, drink, some fruits and sweets. “This is a quick iftar that our dear cab drivers can take while driving. It contains food items that people fasting normally take,” said Sheraton Executive Sous Chef Mahmoud Kanaan . Dressed in special ‘Ramadan Kareem’ shirts, the officials and staff of Sheraton Doha lined up in front of the main entrance of the hotel at exactly 6.15pm. Despite the humidity outside, they warmly greeted the cab drivers who were all smiles while waiting for their special treat. The Sheraton team, led by Kalczynski, did not only hand out the food packs but briefly engaged in friendly chats with the drivers. This simple gesture of camaraderie was appreciated by the hardworking members of the Doha community . http://www.qatar-tribune.com/data/20110810/content.asp?section=nation2_5
